Metal Polisher / Finishing Technician

Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £25,000–£30,000 per annum, dependent on experience

A specialist manufacturing business is seeking a skilled Metal Polisher / Finishing Technician to join its busy finishing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on metal polishing experience who takes real pride in achieving exceptional standards. You will work on high-quality metal components for premium and technically demanding applications, preparing them to an outstanding finish before and after further treatment processes.

The role

You will use a range of polishing equipment, mops and compounds to transform machined metal components into high-quality bright and mirror finishes. The position combines independent, detail-focused work with close collaboration across an experienced production team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Polishing and finishing metal components to a consistently high standard
  • Producing bright and mirror-polished finishes
  • Using polishing motors, orbital sanders, diamond cutters and other finishing equipment
  • Grinding, fettling and linishing where required
  • Inspecting work carefully to ensure it meets quality expectations
  • Working to production deadlines while maintaining accuracy and workmanship
  • Following all relevant health, safety, environmental and safe-working procedures
  • Using supplied PPE and working safely within a well-ventilated production environment
  • Supporting risk assessments and general compliance activity when required
  • Developing knowledge across the full range of metal-finishing processes through structured on-the-job training

About you

You will be practical, reliable and quality-driven, with a genuine interest in developing a specialist craft.

We are looking for:

  • Previous metal polishing experience, ideally at least two years
  • Experience using polishing motors, orbital sanders and/or diamond cutters
  • Experience in bright or mirror polishing metalwork
  • Exposure to grinding, fettling or linishing
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A positive, approachable and willing-to-learn attitude
  • Good timekeeping, reliability and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort with hands-on work and being on your feet for much of the day

Training will be tailored to the successful candidate's existing skill level, offering the chance to build a long-term career in a highly skilled area of manufacturing.

Hours and benefits

  • 39.5 hours per week
  • Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–4:30pm
  • Friday: 7:30am–1:00pm
  • Overtime may be available after successful completion of probation, paid at time and a half
